Hormones Wreaking Havoc with your Waistline?

“I can’t lose weight no matter how little I eat and how much I work out!” My patients and health coaching clients would often tell me this. I don’t know about you, but if I eat even one slice of gluten free pizza I will have gained a pound or two over night. It really does suck that as we age we can’t just eat whatever we want and then exercise it off the next day.

You Need a Reset

Ok, so what do you do about this?

You need to RESET your hormones. I recently did a 10 day no sugar, no grains reset. It really wasn’t as hard as it sounds except for Saturday night when I really wanted a glass of wine with dinner. I had some sparkling water and enjoyed my beautiful meal of protein and two veggies.

Why do I need to reset my hormones?

[tweetthis]Hormones are like a key. They need to unlock receptor sites. Inflammation alters the shape of the receptors and this makes your hormones “key” less able to function.[/tweetthis]

Things that can affect your hormones and receptors

Hidden sources that can mess up your receptor sites:

Exposure to things that mimic hormones. These are found in plastics, cosmetics and personal care products, diet, and the environment.
Sugar, caffeine and alcohol. Some of my faves.
High fructose intake, even things like unsweetened applesauce.
Stress, EMFs from your cell phone and electronic devices, and lack of sleep.
Grains such as wheat, rye, barley and corn, which are often genetically modified.
Meat, dairy and eggs from animals treated with growth hormones.

Doing a Reset

How to reset your receptors.

Do a 5 to 10 day sugar cleanse. Need hep with this? Let me know.
Wash fruits and veggies before consuming.
Eat only 1 serving a fruit per day.
Do not use plastics to store food and never re-heat food in plastic containers.
Stop using products with parabens and phthalates. Try USANA’s skin care line. It’s safe and effective.
Sprinkle flax seed on your food to help reduce excess estrogen.
Use cardamom in your cooking as it’s a digestive aid with the ability to detoxify the liver. No wonder I love chai so much.
Turn off electronics at night and put your phone on airplane mode if you sleep with it in your bedroom.
No electronics 1 hour before bed.
Go gluten free but don’t substitute with processed gluten free products.
Consume only “clean” sources of meats and dairy to improve your nutrition.
Take your supplements. If you need help figuring out which is best for you, let me know.

If you need help with any of this, I’m here to support and guide you.
