Not Hungry in the Morning?

262f4cd6-970a-44cc-b9b2-5fc4579a6aefWhen I advise people to eat breakfast, many say they aren’t morning people or maybe they are not hungry in the morning. What I share with them, is that is not natural and you can change that.

First, I suggest starting your morning with warm lemon water. That way you’ll get your digestive juices flowing and tell your stomach “Hey, get ready. Food is on its way.” As you age, your hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes decrease. You want to do all you can to increase them. This will stimulate your appetite as well as help you process your food.

Eating later than 7pm will inhibit your body’s ability to digest properly and can be the cause of waking up feeling full. Not to mention a bad night’s sleep with crazy dreams. When you sleep your body needs to focus on repair and rejuvenation, not digestion. Eating too late will decrease your body’s ability to repair and fully rest.

Just like everything in life, your body can adapt. It can adapt to staying up to late, sleeping in and not eating breakfast. Just because you’ve adapted, doesn’t mean it’s healthy. When you can retrain your body to sleep by 10pm and eat breakfast between 7-9am, you’ll be amazed at how well you feel. You just may not need that second cup of Joe mid morning.
