Yikes! I have Wrinkles!

Throwback

I remember the first time I noticed the beginnings of crow’s feet. I was 20 years old. At that time I was in art school studying to become a graphic designer. It was the 80’s and I was so hip and trendy. I loved punk rock music, really. You know, when I was in high school living in rural New Jersey, all I ever heard was rock n’ roll. I never really loved it. It didn’t speak to me. I didn’t feel it in my body. Then, living in Philadelphia, I met a really cool guy. He was so hip and stylish. He wore skinny black ties and pencil straight pants with a blazer. The look was so 80’s cool. So we started dating and I loved his music. I’d never heard The Clash, The Human League, or Tears for Fears. It was a whole new world for me. My hair went from New Jersey boring to Flock of Seagulls bleached blonde and shaved on one side. I looked awesome, really.

I’m getting old!

So here I was looking all cool in my thrift store black checked skirt, black button down sweater (worn backwards so the buttons went down my back), pink scarf, crazy geometric earrings, black fishnet tights, finished off with combat boots. Ok, so I was coming down the stairs in a typical Philly row home, very steep and narrow. The lighting cast on my face in just the right way and as I was exiting the building, I looked at myself in the giant mirror that was in the entry-way. And there it was, plain as day, a wrinkle extending from the corner of my left eye. It stopped me in my tracks. I peered closer in the mirror just to be certain. I let out a small shriek. Yikes! I’m getting wrinkles! I’m getting old!

[tweetthis]Have you ever had a moment like that? You catch a look at yourself in a mirror and you can’t believe how you’re looking? Maybe it’s sagging skin, wrinkles, or big puffy dark circles under your eyes?[/tweetthis]

Beauty Counter 911

I hurriedly got my butt over to the local department story beauty counter looking for a solution to stop this process. The woman at the counter was, let’s say, frank. I approached her asking what to do about my aging skin. And you know what she replied? “Well, not only are you going to have to work on your eyes, but you have a line across your neck. Your neck will be the next thing to go.” I was crushed. Now I had to worry about my neck? Are you serious? I left carrying an arsenal of products and a substantial credit card bill. That conversation haunted me for weeks. The expensive products didn’t stop or reverse the aging process or that line across my neck. Sound familiar?

If I had known then what I know now.

The Secret to Healthy Skin

Over time my skin became dry and I look back at photos where I just seem so haggard and exhausted looking. Now, at age… ha! I’m not telling you my age. All I’ll say is I’m older than 20 and younger than 80. But my age doesn’t matter because I look so amazing. Well, my skin looks so amazing. And that line across my neck. Well, that’s actually one of the visual signs for thyroid issues. Can you believe that! I didn’t “discover” my hypothyroid until after having my baby at 40. I have subsequently healed my thyroid, but that is a long story I will leave for another show.

My skin has a healthy glow. Yes, I have many more crow’s feet than the one I found at age 20, but they’re not that bad. I used to have dry, dull skin, but that is gone now. I know, you’re asking, “So how did you do it?” Well, the answer is, I did several things. The basic outline is move my body daily, use safe, clean products on my skin and body, take the BEST nutritional supplements daily, eat clean, healthy foods, and drink tons of water.
