How to avoid indigestion during the holiday season

Avoid Indigestion

Oh no, I ate too much! Now, how do I avoid indigestion? No worries, here’s something to help you avoid indigestion as you eat too much during the holiday season.

How to avoid Indigestion

Has that ever happened to you during the holidays? The food is just too tasty and you ate just a bit too much. Now you’re stretched out on your back hoping to digest all that food so you can feel better.

Let me share some tips to avoid this feeling in the first place.

Take Digestive Enzymes with every meal, especially a big one

Take one at the beginning of your meal to help break down foods without accompanying bloating, gas and stomach discomfort. As you age, your stomach acid decreases, so adding a digestion enzyme can be really helpful. Holiday foods and treats can be a highlight of the season, so be prepared and take the digestive enzymes in advance.

Slow down and enjoy the meal

Taking your time to chew will help with digestion. Remember it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to signal that you’ve eaten enough, so slowing down will help you to not over eat. Just think about how good leftovers taste.

Take a good probiotic daily to support normal digestion

Studies have shown that probiotics may decrease overall anxiety-related behavior, improve mood and protect against stress. The amazing thing about your gut is it’s a key to immune health and happy hormones production. So keep it happy and you’ll be happy too.

Drink less while eating

Yes, I know you never hear me suggest drinking less, but it’s important not to drink too much while you’re eating. Amounts over 4oz can decrease your stomach acid and wreak havoc on your stomach’s ability to digest a meal.

USANA is my favorite when it comes to probiotics and digestive enzymes. Lucky you, they have an amazing 20% holiday special on the Love Your Tummy Pack which has 2 bottles of my digestive enzymes and a box of my probiotics. These would also make some great stocking stuffers! This offer ends on November 29th. Here’s the link if you want to grab some before the next big meal.

If you need help with any of this, I’m here to support and guide you. Have a great week. Donna
