Our bodies’ are brilliant, complex machines imbued with consciousness that protect us when injured. They adapt moment by moment to ever changing stimuli from the environment, our thoughts and feelings, and from how we choose to eat. Our bodies’ are always working toward homeostasis…to maintain balance. Cellular inflammation is a naturally occurring process that brings… immune cells and other substances into the area of an injury of any kind— whether internal or external. But when inflammatory stimuli are constant and toxic, the inflammation process that was designed for healing, becomes chronic and results in continual tissue damage. That’s why chronic inflammation is root cause of most degenerative and so-called autoimmune disorders. Today’s biggest culprit in chronic inflammation is sugar! Sugar is in almost everything and is more addictive than heroin. When table sugar or most kinds of wheat are ingested, the body responds by producing insulin to get the sugar out of the blood stream and into fat cells if it is not being used for energy. Over time the insulin producing cells in our pancreas lose their ability to keep overproducing insulin like this. And our healthy liver tissue gets replaced by the fat that sugar turns into so efficiently.

But wait…do you mean I have to give up my sweet treats? My rewards? Alcohol? My best friends? Know this. Sugar addiction is pervasive and real and needs the same kind of awareness, education and support that any addiction needs or the cravings will continue unabated. And an inevitable decline in health will result. Join Dr. Christiane Northrup and her sister, Penny Northrup Kirk, to hear about the latest information about how it is sugar, not fat, that is the root cause of so many health problems, including Alzheimer’s. We’ll provide guidelines on fasting blood sugar levels, educate you about the glycemic index, and suggest ways you can get support for living a life that keeps inflammation at bay.
