What Can Your Labs Tell You About Your Health?

You might know the feeling of relief when you get the results of your annual blood work and your doctor says “Everything Looks NORMAL.” But have you ever wondered what normal really means? And why are some of the numbers just slightly out of range and marked HIGH or LOW? Why is 201 HIGH cholesterol that warrants an immediate prescription for a statin?

As a certified functional medicine practitioner, I look at labs quite differently than your doctor does. With functional medicine, the ranges are much more narrow because I want to see what is starting to go off rather than waiting until your numbers are so out of range you are feeling symptoms and may need medications. By catching things before they go sideways, you can often gently guide them back into healthy ranges with some herbs or dietary changes.
