So what has your liver ever done for you and why does your liver need love?

  • It filters everything you ingest

  • It assists in the digestive process

How Does the Liver Really Work?

It works in 2 phases. In phase 1, it takes in fat-soluble toxins, then in phase 2, it metabolizes them through 6 different steps to turn them into water-soluble waste products that are then eliminated through the body systems.

The 2 phases of the liver function need nutrients to allow the process to go smoothly.

  • B vitamins: Eggs, bananas, yogurt, milk, leafy greens, and animal protein.
  • Folic acid: Leafy greens, beans, citrus fruits, and whole grains.
  • Glutathione: Asparagus, spinach, garlic, avocado, squash, zucchini, potatoes, melons, grapefruit, strawberries, and peaches.
  • Antioxidants: Berries, beans, artichokes, prunes, apples, and green tea.
  • Carotenoids: Carrots, sweet potato, pumpkin, kale, dark leafy greens, and tomatoes.
  • Vitamin E: Sunflower seeds, almonds, spinach, pumpkin, mangoes, and avocados.
  • Vitamin C: Citrus fruits, guava, pineapple, kiwi fruit, strawberries, dark green vegetables, melons, papayas, and brussels sprouts.
  • Glutamine: Poultry fish, seafood, dairy products, cabbage, and eggs.
  • Glycine: Fish, meat, dairy, soybeans, spinach, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, pumpkin, banana, kiwi fruit, cucumber, and beans.
  • Taurine: Cheese, milk, oats, pork, dark chocolate, eggs, turkey, chicken, and avocado.
  • Cysteine: Pork poultry, eggs, dairy, garlic, onions, broccoli, brussels sprout, oats, granola, wheat germ, sprouted lentils.
  • Cruciferous vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, kale and cabbage, and garlic.

Sometimes when I read a list like this, I think how can I get all this in just for my liver? Well, I do 2 things daily. I take my USANA Cellsentials and Hepasil. It’s a fabulous supplement to support your liver health and function.

Try this simple Liver Detox Smoothie

In a blender, add:
1 organic banana
1 cup frozen organic cherries
2 cups wild or organic blueberries
Water or coconut water to get the consistency you like.
